Johanna's "HOT JOB" of April 2025: 79 HP Otis Motor

RW recently received a 79 HP Otis motor from a local Steel Processing facility for repair and reconditioning.

Upon arrival, the armature, field coils, and interpole coils were electrically tested for failures. All fields passed testing; however, the armature and commutator failed to meet testing requirements. All other components were inspected, cleaned, and prepped for reassembly.

The armature needed to be rewound, and a new commutator installed before it was dynamically balanced. The O endbell was machined and sleeved for the proper bearing fit, and the brush holders were sandblasted and repaired as needed. New bearings, brushes, brush springs, and coupling alignment pins were installed. The motor was reassembled, painted, and final tested before being delivered back to our customer’s facility.
